About our Rotary District 1220 District Governor David Hood

David Hood is our District 1220 Governor 2019-2020. His dynamic energy and cheerful personality are sure to bring laughter and great fellowship to our 2019 District Conference in Scarborough 4th to 6th October 2019.

I extend a warm welcome to all Rotarians, Rotaractors and Friends to our District 1220 Conference in Scarborough 4th to 6th October 2019.

As you know my theme for the Conference and my year as District Governor is ‘THE DIFFERENCE IS YOU’ and through our efforts we will GROW ROTARY.

Sincere thanks go to our District Conference Chair, Martyn Bye and his fabulous team who have worked very hard to make our District 1220 Conference a success.

I joined Wirksworth Rotary in 1996 and found myself as President in 2002/3 and Joint President in 2011-12. Those positions were undertaken whilst I was regularly traveling overseas with the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce an organisation that our District is now a member of and building strong relationships with the business community.

On my retirement late 2012 I was honoured to lead the last Group Study Exchange visit from our District to Nepal in February 2013. In a way that was my Rotary ‘light bulb moment’ to what Rotary achieves worldwide and my participation later that year with the District 1220 Team helping and supporting our clubs. As an Aquabox Trustee I am proud that they will be one of our key speakers this weekend along with many inspirational presentations.

We will be exhibiting the best of Rotary in our District and overseas and I would encourage you all to spend some time at the ROTARY SHOWCASE. There are many stands giving a flavor of our charity efforts and those charities that some of our speakers support and those we support through our Clubs

Over the weekend I will be accompanied by my wife, Jane, who will be singing with her colleagues, Ignite UK, just after lunch on Saturday. I am sure you will show your appreciation for this fabulous Derbyshire chorus who participated in the recent national Championships in Cardiff.

A District Conference is a time for celebration. A time to recognise the important work carried out by our Clubs and their supporters. We meet in friendship, rekindling ‘old’ acquaintances but at the same time making new ones. Please make an effort to meet and greet new people throughout this weekend and encourage them to GROW ROTARY.

As I said at the beginning of this message YOU ARE THE DIFFERENCE be it in the family, business or Rotary and we can succeed with our vision of a stronger Rotary.

Please have a successful year and enjoy the fun and friendship of the District Conference.

Yours in Rotary

District Governor Elect David Hood
